When considering fundraising activities, you will need to consider the risks and how to minimise potential risk.
Please note: YPMH cannot accept any responsibility for accident, injury, loss or damage as a result of your fundraising event.
Please conduct a risk assessment to ensure you have plans in place to protect participants.
If you need more information, consult the Health and Safety Executive at www.hse.gov.uk
Please ensure that all participants are fully briefed about the event, including any risks, fitness requirements, special equipment or clothing required, and standards of behaviour expected.
If you are taking part in or hosting a fitness event, it is the responsibility of the individual to ensure they are fit enough to take part.
Please ensure that your event is adequately supervised.
While we’re here to support you, please note that we cannot be held liable for your event. It’s advisable to check with your local authority regarding any necessary licences or insurance.
If you’re planning a public street collection, you’ll need a licence from your local council. We also recommend having a second person with you when counting donations.
Whether you’re baking brownies or hosting a banquet, food safety regulations apply. To ensure you’re compliant, check the guidelines at food.gov.uk.
It’s easy to send us the money you raise after your fundraising. Here are some options:
An online page
You can set up an online fundraising page through JustGiving, or Enthuse. If you’re in the USA, you may submit money raised through CAF America. This is very simple but double check the charges. Don’t forget to share the link across your social media and make sure to tag us in any posts!
Cash donations
Please contact us at contact@ypmh.org to discuss cash donations.
Don’t forget Gift Aid
Are the people supporting your fundraising UK tax payers? For every £1 the people they donate, HMRC will give us an extra 25p at no cost to them. So, to help us turn every £1 raised into £1.25, please make sure all of your supporters use Gift Aid, if appropriate.

Fundraising FAQs
Thank you for choosing to support YPMH!
First decide how you would like to fundraise. You could set up a bake sale or take on a daring (or downright daft!) challenge!
When you’ve decided on your event, it’s time to start fundraising. Using JustGiving or Enthuse is the simplest and easiest way for friends and family to donate, and all your donations will automatically be transferred to YPMH. If you prefer cash donations, please email us at contact@ypmh.org.
Whether you choose to use a fundraising platform or collect the donations yourself, make sure to include Gift Aid. For every £1 the people they donate, HMRC will give us an extra 25p at no cost to them. So, to help us turn every £1 raised into £1.25, please make sure all of your supporters use Gift Aid, where appropriate.

Shout it out loud!
We don’t mean literally (unless that’s your style!). Stick up those posters, fire off some emails, and shout about your events to everyone you meet. The more you shout, the more support you’ll get!
Go social and share!
Hit up social media with your fundraising story. Tag @foundation_YPMH on LinkedIn, X, Instagram, or Facebook and use #TeamYPMH.
The William Templeton Foundation for Young People’s Mental Health (YPMH) is dedicated to improving young lives by supporting innovative solutions to prevent, detect and reduce mental ill health. Our mission is to create a brighter future for young people by reducing the prevalence and severity of mental health issues.
Through your fundraising efforts, you’re helping us:
- Reduce the number of young people facing mental health challenges, particularly depression and anxiety
- Support young people in building resilience, enabling them to enter adulthood with improved mental wellbeing
- Lower the rates of youth suicide by advancing effective prevention and intervention strategies
Together, we’re working towards a future where:
- Key mental health disorders, especially depression and anxiety, are well understood and inform new practices and policies
- Resources for mental health care are accessible to young people, families, and practitioners
- Healthcare policy and practice consider holistic, early interventions for mental health at every stage
As you prepare for your fundraising event, here are some key points to help you keep your activities safe, legal, and enjoyable.
Transparency for Donors
Always let donors know where their money is going. For example: “100% of proceeds will support YPMH’s mission to improve young people’s mental health.”
Health and Safety
Consider any potential risks involved in your event, and make plans to minimise them. YPMH cannot be responsible for accidents, injuries, losses, or damages resulting from fundraising activities.
Risk Assessments
Conduct a risk assessment to ensure participants’ safety. You can find guidance at the Health and Safety Executive website www.hse.gov.uk.
Participant Briefing
Make sure all participants are well-informed about the event, including any risks, fitness requirements, special equipment, or clothing needed. For fitness events, individuals should confirm they are fit enough to take part. Also, ensure the event is properly supervised.
Including Children
If children are involved, please ensure:
- Adequate adult supervision
- Permissions are obtained from parents or guardians
- Appropriate insurance cover is in place
- You consider whether DAB checks for staff are required
Insurance
While YPMH cannot accept responsibility for accidents, injuries, losses, or damages, we recommend securing adequate insurance and prioritising safety.
Licenses
Check www.gov.uk or consult your local authority to see if your event requires a license for entertainment or other activities.
